Performing
Arts at Catholic Ladies' College
Students at CLC have a wonderful opportunity to experience a wide
variety of Performing Arts programs throughout their years at the
college. State of the art software is available to instrumental teachers
and in the mainstream classroom programs.
Year 7 Instrumental Program
Commencing in Year 7, all students undertake the study of an orchestral
and/or keyboard instrument within their compulsory class program.
This year, two of the five classes study either Violin or Keyboard/Percussion
and three classes are participating in the practical study of a Brass,
Woodwind or Percussion instrument within a comprehensive and balanced
program utilising the very successful Standard of Excellence
band method. The College provides and maintains all instruments and
tutor books.
Year 8
In Year 8 students further develop practical musicianship through
either Guitar or Keyboard/Percussion classes. The study of Music alternates
with the study of Drama each semester.

Years 9 & 10
At Years' 9 & 10 students may choose from a wide variety of semester-based
subjects including: -
- Music Workshop (Our preferred 'pathway' for VCE music studies)
- Music of Stage and Screen
- Creative Songwriting
- Creating Dance
- Dramatic Expression
- Drama Makes Meaning
VCE
Music Performance units 1-4 and Drama units 1-4 are offered at VCE
level in 2003.
CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAM
2005 is proving to be an exciting one for the development of the
Choir and Orchestra, both in terms of rehearsal times, additional
resources and performance opportunities. With the support of the Performing
Arts Committee, which includes representatives from each of the four
main areas of Orchestra, Choir, Dance and Drama,
under the leadership of the Performing Arts Captain and Staff, many
new plans are being discussed to increase concert and performance opportunities.
Along with regular performing groups such as Chamber Choir, Orchestra
and Flute Ensemble, lunchtime Dance and Drama groups are on offer
this year as well as a new Keyboard Class.
Productions
Each year CLC proudly presents a whole school production in the Plenty
Ranges Arts & Convention Centre theatre. Auditions: All girls
are invited to participate in auditions early in Term 1 with rehearsals
in Term 2. A very popular and successful aspect of our show preparation
is the Production Camp held at Old Castlemaine Gaol in July, which
involves all members of the cast, orchestra and crew.
PRIVATE MUSIC - OPTIONAL CLASSES
Lessons in voice, piano, electric and classical guitar and a full
range of orchestral instruments are available to all students at very
competitive rates. The College also provides a low-cost instrument
hire program to enable students to continue their musical studies
within the Private Instrumental Teaching program.
