Services
Resource Centre staff are committed to providing a high level of
service to the school community. Staff work actively with students
in order to help them to locate and use resources and help prepare
them to become life long learners in the future.
Staff work co-operatively with classroom teachers to develop resource
based learning so that students have the skills necessary to access
and use information. This includes teaching the skills needed to make
effective use of new electronic resources such as the internet.
Reading is regarded as an enriching, enjoyable and worthwhile activity
for all our students and is encouraged through book talks to classes
in Years 7 - 10.
The Centre provides curriculum based resources to support the teaching
programs of the school, an extensive fiction collection which focuses
on adolescent fiction, recreational material, a large collection of
magazines and newspapers and a valuable video collection which can
be accessed through the video commander system.
Technology
Staff at CLC are concerned to keep abreast of the latest educational
technology and to incorporate whatever is most appropriate into the
school learning environment. The Resource Centre has a class set of
laptops which can be borrowed by classes. These can also be used by
individual students when they are not in class use. There are 12 laptop
access points to the School Network in the Resource Centre. Laptops
can be borrowed by VCE students overnight.
There are personal computers in the Resource Centre available
for students both individually and as part of class research. These
provide access to the internet, CD ROM towers and the library catalogue.
A range of CD Roms are permanently available on all computers and others can
be used on single machines.
The library catalogue, internet and CD ROMS can be accessed from
around the school via the college Intranet.
Book Club
There is a Book Club which meets once a fortnight in the Resource
Centre and is engaged in such activities as book discussions, visits
to authors and setting up displays around a book theme.
